Global health is a branch of healthcare studies that prioritizes improving health worldwide, with the major goal of achieving health equity among people worldwide. Global health focuses on translational health problems, causes, and treatments and incorporates various approaches and technologies in health science to promote population-based disease prevention.
Global health employs several measures to assess and address health concerns, including disability-adjusted life years (DALY), quality-adjusted life years (QALYs), and mortality rate. DALY summarizes the effects of illness, disability, and mortality by assessing the years lived with disability or time lost due to premature mortality. QALY integrates the expected survival with the expected quality of life in a single number. Finally, the mortality rate is estimated by dividing the total number of deaths in a population by the total population size.
